A New Marriott-Branded Hotel is Moving Through the Planning Process in Palm Desert

By Bob Marra

The City of Palm Desert Architectural Review Commission has approved preliminary plans submitted by AO Architects on behalf of Kamla Hotels for a new TownePlace Suites by Marriott extended-stay hotel.

The hotel is being planned for a 2.87-acre parcel located within the area known as the Monterey Crossing Specific Plan within the mixed-use center.

The design plans envision a four-story, 128-room, 67,568-square-foot hotel east of Monterey Avenue and north of Dinah Shore Drive. The hotel’s suites will feature living and sleeping areas, fully equipped kitchens, free hot breakfast, and free WiFi, among other amenities. The proposed Palm Desert location would have 131 parking spaces and an outdoor pool.

The specific plan for Monterey Crossing, approved in 2017, is an 18-acre mixed-use commercial center that includes drive-thru restaurants, shops, and retail buildings, a car dealership, and up to a four-story hotel. Major current tenants include Wal-Mart Supercenter, Sam’s Club, Kohl’s, Ashley Furniture, PetSmart, and numerous smaller retailers that have been built and operating for several years.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott is an extended-stay hotel brand that is ideal for the traveler who needs specialized accommodations for longer stays. The brand features a laid-back modern design characterized by personal touches and playful details, allowing guests to live uninterrupted. Offering studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens, and organized closet units, the brand provides thoughtful spaces for both living and working. TownePlace Suites offers the comforts of home with its “Something Borrowed” amenity which allows guests to borrow games and tools from the front desk.
